The Toolkit

Targeting of resources

Some providers may prefer to target resources. Using CRM systems and existing customer databases to look at data on age and income may be able to help you identify places where larger numbers of potentially eligible people are.

GMCA has also created local authority data packs which use available data to identify wards where pension credit is most under claimed. These are hosted in the Google Drive folder.

Helping residents to claim Pension Credit

(i) For a resident to apply for Pension Credit, they must first have checked their eligibility using the Government’s calculator tool here:

You can assist residents with this by completing the form on their behalf whilst you are with them or on the phone to them.

(ii) If they are found to be eligible, they then need to submit a full application. Again, you can assist the resident with completing the online application form here:

Or you can join them on a phone call to the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.

(iii) The resident will begin receiving payments automatically if they are successful. Please note that many residents whose applications have been rejected have been able to successfully appeal. To help a resident with an appeal, please use the following advice from Citizens Advice here:

Please Note: If you do not have the resources to assist residents with their applications, Greater Manchester’s local Citizens Advice services are all aware of the campaign and will accept referrals.

Residents can be directed to the following page with instructions of how to get in touch with their local Citizens Advice service:
